Both words mean “to be” however there are differences in their usage

Estar refers to things that are temporary ( ex: mood, physical condition, temperature, physical appearance, emotional/mental condition, location)

Ser refers to things that are permanent (ex: inherent qualities)

Their composition changes depending on the tense they are in but for the purposes of this lesson, we will be focusing on the terms in the present tense
