Beginner Lesson 1: Greetings, Farewells, and Flyering
(1) Basic Greetings
Description of Basic Greetings
-
Greetings in Spanish are exactly like greetings in English and basically serve the purpose of acknowledging someone.
-
Greetings in Spanish can be as short as one word or as long as a whole sentence… sometimes even longer.
-
For the purposes of this beginner lesson, we will be focusing on greetings that are short phrases.
Formality
-
Spanish uses different verb conjugation when speaking casually to another person (tú) versus speaking formally (usted or ud.).
-
You would use the tú form when speaking to someone you know well or someone younger than you.
-
You would use the ud. form when speaking to someone you just met or to someone older than you. This form shows respect and should be used when speaking to any adult in Maclovio Rojas.
